Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Michael Donaldson.
I have been involved in the music industry for over 20 years as a recording artist, label manager, publicist, licensing rep, freelance music producer, college radio music director, and record shop owner. As an artist, I recorded under the name Q-Burns Abstract Message and have three major releases on Astralwerks / Virgin Records. I traveled extensively in support of these albums and reportedly am the first American touring musician to perform in Siberia.
As a producer, I produced part of Jim White's renowned album No Such Place for David Byrne's Luaka Bop label. I've done dozens of comissioned remixes, including work for artists such as Faith No More, Youssou N'Dour, Gus Gus, Violent Femmes, and (really) Lawrence Welk.
In 1994 I co-founded Eighth Dimension Records which quickly became one of the leading American independent labels in the underground electronic music scene. Eighth Dimension Records released an eclectic and successful discography and eventually branched out into event promotion, artist management, and music licensing.
My next step was to start 8D Industries, a company focused on freelance release promotion and publicity for electronic dance labels (8DPromo) and the representation of songwriters and producers for media licensing (8DSync). I have used my experience to grow 8D Industries into a known and respected operation, with clients based in over a dozen different countries.
